Gus Moberg grew up just north of Gothenburg, Sweden, and started playing guitar around the age of twelve, after having heard the music of Queen being played in a commercial. He went the route of taking guitar lessons and playing in rock bands with his friends in the small town of Nödinge during his junior high-years and then went on to attend the music program at Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet during his high school years.

After finishing high school, Gus was asked to join Reggae band “Dubadown” with which he toured and recorded over the next five years (recordings can be found on Spotify). As the band slowed down and finally called it quits, Gus joined Swedish-Rumanian Swedish reggaeband “The OSGC” and Swedish hiphop band “Middlesex” (recordings can be found on Spotify) before making the move to Vancouver to study jazz at Capilano University in 2010.

After completing his BA of Music at Capilano University, Gus decided to try life somewhere new, and fate had it he would end up in Calgary. Since the fall of 2015, Gus has taught guitar, improvisation, and held master classes in Calgary, including at Music & Play. He has been active in the jazz community and has hosted the jazz jams at Kawa and Gravity at numerous occasions, been part of the “Jeans & Jazz” concerts at The Vin Room, played the Calgary Jazz Festival with Quincy Troupe, and sat in with The CJO. He has also been playing with local bands like “Rotary Park” and “The Alex Ginella Band”.

After a temporary move back to Sweden together with his wife in 2021, working as a music teacher in the public school system and as a guitar teacher at a lesson center, Gus is back in Calgary again and is happy to be back teaching at The Music Studio and playing in the city. For any aspiring guitar players interested in conquering the fretboard, Gus is a player knowledgeable in many styles and with a well-developed philosophy regarding his teaching.
